Pushkar Shri Krishna Janmasthmi Festival

The Janamashtami festival marks the birth of Krishna, the most highly venerated God in the Hindu pantheon. Devotees celebrate it by fasting and prayers, which is followed bypushkar-festivals feasting and merriment. The Rang nath Temple remains open throughout the night and birth of lord krishna is celebrated at midnight. On the next morning Nand utsav is celebrated. people distribute prasad (holy offerings) and dance with joy. Earthen pots filled with butter, favourite of lord krishna are tied to several places at certain heights.

Pushkar Ganesha Festival

Ganesh Chaturtganesha-festivalhi is celebrated in the honor of lord Ganesha. This festival is dedicated to the popular elephant headed God, Ganesha. This festival is celebrated all over India. The elephant-headed god who is worshipped is believed to be the remover of obstacles. In Pushkar, huge statue of Ganesha are carried in procession. On specific dates in the following ten days, these statues are immersed in the Pushkar lake with thousands of worshippers dancing and singing after them.

 

Pushkar Rainy Festivals

The fifteen Days of Month Bhadva of Hidu Caledar are celebrated as the rainy fair in pushkar. The each day of month have a is dedicated to different god and godess and the festival are celebrated to their places. Most of the Pushkar Rainy Festivals are celebrated at the pushkar hills and tourist and devotees celebrate it by fasting and prayers, which is followed by feasting and merriment. Among the fifteen festival the Most Popular are: Savitri Temple Festival, Ajaypal Festval, Vaidhnath Festival etc.(Aug-Sep.)

Pushkar Navratra and Dashehra Festivals

It is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country. In Pushkar people wear traditional outfits like ghagra choli and play garba and dandiya ras. The tenth day, Dussehra, commemorates the victory of Rama, of the epic Ramayana, over Ravana. In many places it culminates with the burning of huge images of Ravana and his accomplices, celebrating the victory of the good over evil. Re-enactments of the epic Ramayana takes place in various places.it is also known as Vijayadashami in south India. In Mysore Dussera is a picturesque festival.

Diwali Festival, Pushkar India

Diwali which is also known as Festival of light celebrated for five days. In 2014 Thursday, October 23. Each day of the festival has a different meaning. The main festivities take place on the third day, while the fourth day is celebrated as New Year’s Day. Merchants open fresh accounts for the New Year, and offer prayers. On the fifth and last day, brothers and sisters get together and share food, to honor the bond between them.
Because of the lights, fireworks and sweets involved, it’s a great favourite with children. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, although the actual legends that goes with the festival.
Not only in Pushkar but in all India Diwali is very much a time for buying and exchanging gifts. Traditionally sweets and dried fruit were very common gifts to exchange, but the festival has become a time for serious shopping, leading to anxiety that commercialism is eroding the spiritual side of the festival.

Pushkar Fair – An International Festival – Mela

Pushkar’, today almost synonymous with the Kartik Mela (Pushkar Fair, Pushkar Camel Fair, Pushkar Cattle Fair) and the lord Brahma temple. The Kartik Fair which is annually held in Pushkar around October – November (Kartik Sudi ekadashi to poonam according to Hindu calendar) has gained international repute as cattle and cultural fair.

The Pushkar fair is actually a combination of two fair happening at the same venue the city of Pushkar in Rajasthan. One of the fair that is take place here at same time, one of the highest exaltation of Lord of creation, Brahma and other is largest camel fair. In the fair different specious of cattle Bulls, Horse, Camel, Donkey, etc. brought in this from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, etc. and good trading take place. The fair started a week before the kartik poonam and ends on the full moon night..

During the Pushkar Fair pujas are performed almost continuously by the priest, who guide people through the rituals of taking the holy dip in lake.

Looking to the increasing interest and attendance of foreign tourist in the fair, the Sate Govt. and Tourist Culture Department have started organized International Tourist Fair and large numbers of Hotels and resort have spread up in and around Pushkar town which provide every facilities to the tourist.
District Administration also organized different competition and event for the foreign tourist and proper arrangement for their comfort, and security, convenience money exchange taken care by the local Administration.

Pushkar Mela (Fair)

As Col James Tol, the renowned historian has described in his book “Animals and Etiquette’s of Raj” that Pushkar is the king of all sacred place in India, which amply demonstrates the significance and importance of this temple town.

pushkar-fairThe importance of Pushkar lies in the fact that lord Brahma the creator, decided to perform a treat sacrifice for creation of universe. He threw a lotus flower to select suitable site for the said ceremony and the flower struck at Pushkar and the water sprang up from there giving shape to sacred lake which was named Pushkar Lake and sacrifice (Yajna) was performed here on the bank of lake in the presence of Great sages and God and Goddess from the 11th to 15th day of lunar period of Kartik month (oct.-nov.). This is interesting to note that the sacred the sacred rituals were performed by Brahma in ceremony of second wife Gayatri, (who was managed to be brought from nearly village, as Savitri firsr wife could not make it to be present at make it to be present at the auspicious momentum and the performance and religious ceremony cold not be missed.) To commensurate the said auspicious event of great sacrifice a religious fair Called Pushkar Fair is held here from time immemorial, where lakhs of hindu pilgrims assemble to have a holy bath in pious Pushkar lake.(on the bank of which magnificent buildings and bathing ghats have been built by former native rulers vig- Jaipur, Jodhpur, Sikar, Gwalier Kota, Bundi, etc. named after this respective states.) Gradually temples and Dharm Shala (Inn.) of different seats where also put up in the town (most important among which is the brahma temple, which is the only in the world) where the pilgrims used to stay for 5 days and attended the religious congregations organized by the different holy god men of pushkar-fair-ghatsdifferent religious sects.
This more to Pushkar fair than this religious bath and congregation since last many centuries, a cattle fair is also held on the side line of Pushkar fair and different specious of cattle Bulls, Horse, Camel, Donkey, etc. brought in this from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, etc. and good trading take place, during fair and the District organize the fair and necessary amenities (water, food, fodder etc.) are provided to the cattle breeders and cattle. And during exhibition, competition of cattle along with entertainment programmes are also held which are witnessed by the pilgrims as well as foreign tourist who feel fascinated by the local Folk Songs and rural culture.
